Moni
is perched on the foothills of Mount Fanari.
From the balcony of some of the restaurants there is a
beautiful view across the fertile plain of the Tragea
with its olive groves, interspersed by small villages.
Traditional weaving is often on exhibition and for sale
in the village.
From Moni a footpath leads down to the Byzantine church
of Panagia Drosiani.

Panagia
Drosiani, parts of which date back to the 6th century, is the
second oldest Byzantine church in Southern Europe. The church
is open to visitors, and has beautiful restored frescoes, the
earliest of which date back to the 7th century. Several layers
of frescoes were found during restoration work.
From the church footpaths lead through the olive groves to other
Byzantine churches near Halki. |
