Moutsouna

Moutsouna, once the main emery port of Naxos, lies on the Eastern coast of the island. The old cable railway can still be seen with emery still in the buckets when descending the serpentine road leading to the village. Since emery is now produced synthetically Moutsouna mainly survives as a fishing port and from a limited amount of tourism.

The quayside has a few waterfront restaurants with excellent fresh fish and lobster. There are two small sand beaches with crystal clear water.

Any underwater rock areas will be rewarding places for snorkeling and observing fish.
Just before Moutsouna a dirt road turns left for Azalas bay which has a series of pebble beaches and a rather dramatic headland.

From Moutsouna a newly asphalted road leads south along the coast to the hamlet of Panormos. At the beginning of this road is a taverna which remains open out of season.
